PRESS: CEO says Russian Railways testing 5G connection technology

MOSCOW, Oct 1 (PRIME) -- Russian Railways is testing a 5G connection technology, the national railroad carrier’s General Director Oleg Belozyorov told business daily Kommersant in an interview on Tuesday.

“We tested services of 5G connection to understand how fast information moves with these networks. We see a much higher data transfer speed than in 4G networks. It is what railroad workers need to accelerate decision making in the online mode,” Belozyorov said.

“Our European colleagues are also designing new standards by transfer speed, based on 5G among others. We intend to stay on equal footing. Connection is something on which the system of railway traffic control system has been always built and is built.”

Local companies are actively working on implementation of 5G. State-controlled telecom operator Rostelecom and state industrial corporation Rostec said earlier a roadmap for 5G network development will be submitted to the government by 2020.
